Skipper David Willey 'excited' to see Steelbacks step up in the face of 'adversity'

The Steelbacks' win against the Lightning was a great example of how the team can overcome any challenge.

After a tough start to the season, the Lightning have been one of the form teams in the Vitality Blast, winning their last six matches.

But the Steelbacks were too strong in front of their home crowd, chasing down the Lightning’s total of 166 with five balls to spare.

It was a crucial win for the Steelbacks, who moved up to fourth in the North Group and kept their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals alive.

Willey: 'It was a great win for us'

"It was a great win for us," said Willey.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game, but we stuck to our task and got the job done.

"It's been a tough season for us, but we're starting to find our feet now and I'm excited to see what we can achieve in the rest of the competition," added Willey.

Steelbacks show great character

The Steelbacks showed great character to come back from a difficult start against the Lightning.

They lost three wickets in the first five overs, but Harry Brook and Sam Hain steadied the ship with a partnership of 72.

Brook was eventually dismissed for 42, but Hain went on to make 72 and guide the Steelbacks to victory.

Steelbacks bowlers impress

The Steelbacks bowlers also impressed against the Lightning, with Luke Wood taking 3-28 and Ben Raine taking 2-33.

It was a great all-round performance from the Steelbacks, who will be hoping to build on this win and reach the quarter-finals of the Vitality Blast.
