Tottenham Hotspur Suffer Wilson Odobert Injury Blow In 2 1 Win V Coventry

Tottenham Hotspur suffer Wilson Odobert injury blow in 2-1 win v Coventry

Spurs defender stretchered off

Tottenham Hotspur defender Wilson Odobert has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in Saturday's 2-1 win over Coventry City.

The 20-year-old centre-back was stretchered off in the first half of the Premier League 2 match at the CBS Arena after a clash with Coventry striker Martyn Waghorn.

Odobert to undergo surgery

Scans have since confirmed that Odobert has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and will require surgery.

The injury is a huge blow for Tottenham, who are already without a number of defenders due to injury.

Conte: Odobert will be 'a big loss'

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte said: "Wilson is a young player with a lot of potential, so this is a big loss for us.

"He is a very good defender, and he has been playing well for us this season.

"We will miss him, but we have other players who can step up and take his place.

Odobert's injury history

Odobert has been plagued by injuries throughout his career.

He missed the majority of the 2020/21 season with a hamstring injury, and he also missed the start of this season with a calf injury.

This latest injury is the most serious of Odobert's career, and it is likely to keep him out for a long time.

Tottenham's injury crisis

Tottenham are currently without a number of defenders due to injury.

Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, and Japhet Tanganga are all out with long-term injuries, while Matt Doherty is also a doubt for Saturday's match against Manchester City.

Conte will be hoping that his remaining defenders can stay fit, as Tottenham have a busy schedule of fixtures coming up.

Tottenham's next match

Tottenham's next match is against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 12:30pm GMT.
